I have been very lucky to have lived a life that was spur-of-the- moment and until the birth of my first child, a baby girl, largely a selfish one. Throughout my life I have been extremely lucky. Luck is that thing which you cannot predict. I had never planned to be lucky. I put myself in a position where I was able to take advantage of every opportunity. Isn’t it odd that lucky people always seem to be in the right place at the right time? I have been lucky, and in the right place at the right time.
This way of living has taken me on adventures that I could never have imagined. I want to share some of these experiences with other people. This book is about a period of time that I will never get back and would never consider reliving. It represents a remarkable epoch. It was a time where I was care free and receptive to anything and witness to some extraordinary changes happening in rugby and to countries around the globe. It didn’t occur to me at the time but on reflection I realise that I have been extremely fortunate.
